Eastern Region Municipality: Approval of a guide to health, technical and safety conditions in collective housing for individuals
Officials in the Eastern Region Municipality highlighted the importance of improving the housing environment for workers and individuals by applying the necessary regulatory measures for improvement in line with safety requirements by the best international standards.
The Assistant Undersecretary for Reconstruction and Projects, Eng. Mazen bin Adel Bakhurji, spoke in a workshop organized remotely by the Asharqia Chamber represented by the Jubail Business Council on Monday, February 15, 2021, under the title (Partnership in Improving the Housing Environment for Workers and Individuals), moderated by the Chairman of the Council Mubarak bin Abdullah Al-Mishal. The Secretariat, in continuous coordination with the establishments, is proceeding with the improvement project until it reaches labor housing that meets all the necessary safety and environment requirements and has worked to take several quick measures in this project, especially concerning the Coronavirus to limit its spread among workers, and other measures that take into account development and regulation on Long-term housing for workers, such as working on updating the regulation for health conditions for labor housing.
Bakhraji went on to say that the labor housing file is one of the files that have enjoyed great priority in all the concerned sectors and that the Corona pandemic played a role in accelerating the pace of work on that file and addressing all its challenges, pointing out that creating a suitable environment for workers ’housing is an investment attraction in light of the objectives of the investment vision.
For this part, said Director General of Environmental Health Secretariat, Dr. Abdul Rahman Bin Saleh Alshahyl, to improve workers' housing initiative, launched in the light of the pandemic conditions, and keep pace with the precautionary measures taken by the State preventive and to reduce the spread of Coronavirus, Stressing to move forward to achieve adequate labor housing that is compatible with public health requirements, with high specifications and compatible with health and safety requirements, indicating that the Secretariat has taken into account, through requirements related to buildings, designs, and specifications, that the workers' housing areas have all the specifications and planning and construction standards that provide a safe and complete residential environment and services, Pointing out the importance of collaborative work between the Municipality of the Eastern Region and employers, with the aim of raising the level of application of improved and regulated requirements and procedures for workers' housing.
Al-Shuhail said that a guide to the health, technical and safety conditions that must be met in collective housing for individuals has been approved, which contains a number of requirements, including those related to the locations of collective housing for individuals and also with regard to buildings, designs and technical specifications, health, safety, and the environment, crisis-time requirements, individuals' rights requirements, and finally the requirements. Especially for monitoring and following up the implementation of requirements and the use of violations tables.
